YOUTH REVISITED
By: Frederick Laird
I like to reminisce
About early childhood days
Of naivete and innocence
And all that it conveys.
Days of playing in the street
And ball games at the park
Camping trips where I got wet
And bonfires after dark.
Wandering off with a neighbor girl
When I was only three
Having a crush on another
Who wouldn’t look at me.
Listening to the radio
To Winchell and Amos n’ Andy
And reading in the comics
About an orphan and her dog “Sandy.”
School days where I excelled
In numbers, words, and singing
But cursive writing threw me
And soon had my head ringing.
All these were part of early life
And to those years are confined
They were left behind when I grew up
But are forever in my mind.
