I climb to the top of the mountain
And marvel at what I see
The peaks and spires and tree-clad slopes
In a landscape where I can feel free.
But best of all is the silence
And a feeling that I’m alone
Away from the clamor of cities
And the bustle that strikes to the bone.
The silence, oh the silence
That only the hills can provide
In a setting God has decreed
No man can put aside.
A person needs time in the mountains
For the silence that soothes the soul
Where the heartbeat is measurably stronger
And zest for life once again whole.
