The curtain of night falls swiftly
At the end of a wintry day
The cold settles in very quickly
And stars hold their nightly display.
The night wind shatters the silence
And soon makes its presence known
Sweeping leaves off earth’s new carpet
Chilling us right to the bone.
The darkness appears to be endless
As we wait for the coming of dawn
The cold merely dons a new garment
And the curtain is once again drawn
ODE TO A WINTER NIGHT
