JANUARY
By: Frederick Laird
Cold, wintry mornings when breath hangs suspended
Pendant-like icicles hanging from eaves
Leaden skies tell us cold weather’s intended
Glacial winds whipping at coat-tails and sleeves.
Feelings of warmness soon will evade us
Arctic-like chills reaching down to our toes
It will take only one gust to persuade us
It’s time to be indoors, in quiet repose.

Fireside relaxing, to thaw out our bodies
With a good book that we’ve wanted to read
Munching on popcorn and drinking hot toddies
Languidly waiting for chills to recede.
Temperature frigid, weather contrary
This is the way that we see January.
