There are places on earth close to heaven
I’ve been lucky in those I have seen
But none has the closeness to nature
In a setting that’s so serene
As the beautiful Adirondacks
Where the trees and the lakes meet the sky
And the only sound other than silence
Is the loon with its mournful cry.

The birches and pines and cedars
And maples in brilliant display
Add a touch to enhance the stillness
That has stolen my heart away.
Fall in the Adirondacks
I’ll admit I’ve been slow to learn
Makes one want to shout out in rapture,
“I’ll return, I’ll return, I’ll return.”
