A Night At The Dirty Shame Saloon

It was Saturday night, the moon was alight
The maestro was plinkin’ a tune
When a fight broke out with a mighty shout
At the Dirty Shame Saloon

Bare foot Joe was feelin’ low
As lonesome as he could be
When he made a pass at a comely lass
By the name of Molly Dee.

Joe didn’t know that Molly’s beau
Was sittin’ at the bar
Watching the pass Joe made at the lass
In case he went too far.

When Joe reached out there was no doubt
Of the favors he had in mind
Then Casey, the beau, got up to show
Redress of another kind.

Casey howled, grimaced and scowled
As he hurtled across the floor
Then lashed out with a mighty clout
Joe could not ignore.

Though Casey was small and no threat at all
To the brawn of Barefoot Joe
He was quick on his feet and much too fleet
For Joe to land a blow.

With an angry shout Joe reached out
To crush Casey to his bear-like chest
Then he could show, or so thought Joe
Which man was the best.

But Casey slipped out of his grip
And smacked Joe on the snout
Joe roared in pain and reached again
To smash this pesky lout.

The maestro ceased his liltin’ piece
Heads turned to watch the fray
Casey was cheered, while Joe was jeered
As Casey kept Joe at bay.

It wasn’t too long, fightin’ someone so strong
That Casey lost some of his fire
It then became plain Casey’s fight was in vain
Though his courage one had to admire.

At this point our maid got in the parade
With a bottle she snitched from a table
She bopped them each twice, which wasn’t too nice
Friends dragged them out to the stable.

Our lovely lass than accepted a pass
From a gambler who promised the moon
They rode off with the sun for their own kind of fun
And the maestro again plinked a tune.

Since then not a word has ever been heard
About Molly and her new bloke
But folks who know Molly are sure that her folly
Will end when the gambler goes broke.

Casey and Joe now sit toe to toe
As friendly as good friends can be
They raise toast after toast to their Dirty Shame host
But never talk about young Molly Dee.
